When it comes to a clogged toilet, there are several options to consider before calling Colt Home Services for help. One of the easiest and most effective methods is using baking soda and vinegar. This process is an effective and safe solution to unclog a toilet. Just make sure to follow the directions below.

How to unclog a toilet with baking soda and vinegar:

Step 1: Check the water level

If the water level in the bowl is near the top it is a good idea to remove some of the water or water until it lowers. Adding baking soda and vinegar will cause foaming that may overflow your toilet.

Step 2: Add baking soda

Start by adding a half cup of baking soda to the toilet bowl. Be sure to pour it evenly around the sides of the bowl.

Step 3: Add vinegar

Next, pour a half cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl. You will notice a fizzing reaction as the vinegar and baking soda react with each other. If more or less than a half cup of baking soda was used, be sure to use equal parts vinegar in this step.

Step 4: Wait

Let the mixture sit in the toilet bowl for about 30 minutes. This will give the baking soda and vinegar enough time to break down the clog.

Step 5: Flush

After 30 minutes, flush the toilet to see if the clog has been cleared. If the toilet is still clogged, repeat the process.
